The gradient just measures how steep the graph is. The bigger the gradient, the steeper it is.

You should learn the following formula:So let’s take an example.

Find the gradient of the following line:*First take two points on the line.*

Let’s take (0,2) and (4,4).*Find change in y and x.*

Change in y = 4 – 2 = 2

Change in x = 4 – 0 = 4

Therefore gradient equals 2/4 = 0.5**Note:** It’s always good to check you got the sign right. If the graphs slopes upwards going left to right then the gradient is positive. If it slopes down going left to right then the gradient is negative.
