Mean, Median, Mode and Range

Mode = The Most Common

This is easy to find in tallied data and is not distorted by extreme values. However sometimes it doesn’t exist or there is more than one mode. It is also not always a good representation of the data.

Median = The Middle Value

To get this rearrange all the data in ascending order and then just find the middle value. If there are two values in the middle then the median is halfway between these two.

Again this has the advantage of not being distorted by extreme values, but again is not always a good representation of the data.

Mean = Total Of Items / Number Of Items

This is just the average. It uses all the data and is usually representative. However it may be distorted by extreme data values.

Range = Difference Between Highest And Lowest

The range is as simple as that!
